Concrete Countertops Don't Belong In The Kitchen
I'm sure concrete countertops would be a valued addition to some part of the house. I just don't see their usefulness in the kitchen.
When done well they can be very attractive, especially when they are colored. Their look and texture makes them appear to be a good choice especially for modern homes. But looks look a little deeper than the surface.
Why Concrete Countertops Won't Ever Be Installed In My Kitchen!
You can sum up why I'll never use concrete countertops for my kitchen in a single word.
Functionality
Concrete just doesn't function as well in the kitchen as other countertops that cost much less. Yes, that does include quartz countertops as well as many other examples like granite and corian countertops.
There are two things that really turn me off about concrete. The first is that you have to use a cutting board whenever you want to use a knife. The sealer of the countertop can get damaged.
The other thing that drives me nuts is that they don't have much heat resistance. You would think that since they are stone they would have the same heat resistance qualities of granite. Nope! Not at all.
You can't put hot pots and pans on the countertop without using a trivet.
Clever contractors have come up with ways to make them more functional. Like building trivets right into the countertop or building cutting board right into them.
This just unnecessarily drives up the cost. There are better ways to spend your money when it comes to your countertops. Try some of these other kitchen countertop ideas.
