Countertops For Kitchens

Corian Countertops

Corian is not a countertop type but a brand name for solid surface countertops. Solid surface countertops are made by a number of different manufacturers like: WilsonArt, DuPont, and Formica. Yes, Formica is a brand name too and not a type of countertop.

They are an excellent choice for kitchen countertops. They have a durable surface and with all of the color and pattern choices you have you can match them to any style kitchen.

Granite Countertops

Granite countertops are a big step up in quality and functionality from solid surface. You might be surprised to learn that they are not triple the price of solid surface as many people assume.

Granite countertops are nearly impossible to damage and will outlast nearly anything else that you install in your home. The only drawback is that they do need to be sealed every 12 or so months. Think of the sealer as wax for your car. It's there to protect your investment.

If you're considering granite than check out quartz countertops as well. When you compare quartz vs the competition such as granite I think you'll agree that quartz might be a better option.

Plastic Laminate

Plastic laminate kitchen countertops are the Hyundai of the countertops for kitchens market. They are an excellent product with a low price. They are a great value for anyone on a budget.

They look good and work well in even the busiest of kitchens. You won't be scoring any super style points of be adding resale value to your home, however. If you are planning on living there for a long time it shouldn't matter anyway. Functionality and performance matter and should not be measured in resale value.

Quartz Countertops

While it's our clear favorite in the countertops department, quartz counters, from brands like silestone and cambria, are not for everyone.

The most purist countertop enthusiasts will go for granite as it is a completely natural stone. Quartz is mixed with a resin that gives it an advantage over granite.

The resin eliminates the pores that occur in most natural stone. Without pores you don't have to seal the countertop and you don't have to worry nearly as much about food stains or bacteria growth. You'll also find that silestone prices are very comparable to granite and many other countertop options.
